Diving in Palm Beach & Jupiter

Palm Beach Florida is modern, urban and very stylish.  This is a landscape full of retail options and highways interspersed with large golf resorts. Business style hotels provide the accommodation for visitors, and there is a daily short drive to the marinas to board the dive boats on the Inter-coastal inlet. A very short boat ride out to the reef, and there is only one word to describe the diving here – WOW! Big shelves of reef descend into the depths like steps, and the marine life is abundant, and BIG! Goliath grouper, sharks, rays and schooling fish everywhere. Barracuda of immense proportions, spadefish as big as a dustbin lid, and of course, especially in nesting season, turtles – leatherback, loggerhead, green and hawksbill. A few swim throughs and caverns can be found, but in the main, it is drop in, drop down, sit and wait for a bit before drifting along with the currents that wash the reef – our perfect dive!

Up the coast a abit further north is Jupiter. A waterfront town surrounding a sizeable inlet leading out on to the Atlantic Ocean complete with its own lighthouse and a vibrant social life. Bars and restaurant are everywhere and compete only for their waterfront positions with some super impressive residential homes.  Jupiter is also the home of the Goliath grouper aggregation and some excellent shark diving. In July through September, the big grouper, weighing up to 900lbs, come to breed, and it is not uncommon to find 100 of these huge fish on one wreck dive! And for the sharks, all year round, there are daily encounters on the baited dives with Tiger Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Bull Sharks, Sandbar, Grey Reef, Silk and the ever-present nurse sharks too. Hammerheads are frequent visitors, and it has been known for an occasional Great White to pass through too.
