The focus of a holiday to Cayo Largo is relaxation. The whole island is edged with beautiful white sand beaches that stretch for miles! This really is a desert island experience just waiting for you! Just 17km in circumference, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty. The white sand is so fine that it remains cool under your feet even under the midday sun, and we strongly recommend on deco days that you explore the island on horseback or scooter!

Diving in Cayo Largo
Beach life and water sports are the primary attractions here – windsurfing, kayaks, catamaran sailing, and pedaloes are all available along the beach. And diving of course!

Cayo Largo is also one of the few places in the world where turtles of several species come ashore to lay their eggs. In April to June, thousands of green, leatherback and hawksbill turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the sand, and the local Turtle Sanctuary gather the eggs and relocate them to a protected nesting enclosure to protect the diminishing populations. In September to early December, the turtles hatch by the hundreds, and there is nothing quite as special as watching them make their first steps into the sea.
Marine life here is pretty impressive - healthy soft corals provide the flora, and the fauna is made up of plentiful macro life, schooling jacks, snapper, grunts, puffer fish and it is quite common to encounter schooling eagle rays too! Caribbean reef and nurse sharks are occasional visitors too, and the odd whale shark can also be spotted in the winter months.

Deep Thought
Cayo Largo is a truly beautiful escape, but is close enough to the mainland - a 35 minute flight - to be a perfect base for a twin-centre holiday. Consider combining Cayo Largo with Varadero or Havana.
